Katniss Everdeen, a sixteen year old girl from District 12, volunteers in her younger sisters place for the 74th Annual Hunger Games - a government oppression technique where a female and male between the ages of twelve and eighteen are randomly selected from their home districts and are placed in a large outdoor arena where they're expected to fight to the death while the entire world watches.
